The 52 Petroushka Ball which took place on Friday the 10th of February 2017 at the Plaza Hotel was both elegant and spirited! Our guests both dinner and dancing numbered 700. Two destinguished Orchestras entertained, The Lester Lanin in the Grand Ballroom and the Barynia Balalaika in the Terrace Room.

This year as in the past 15 years stars from the Metropolitan Opera performed. Kristine Opolais and Brandon Jovanovich both presently in the opera "Rusalka" sang the most beautiful areas.

An award was presented to Dr. Igor Holodny, chairman of the Board, for his long and dedicated service the children we serve.

All net proceeds from the Petroushka Ball go directly towards the Russian Children’s Welfare Society (RCWS) charitable programs. Among them are educational scholarships for orphans (currently 120 students), medical treatment for children with severe facial deformities (annually over 200 little patients receive surgeries), assistance to orphanages, rehabilitation programs for children with special needs, a "Yelka" (New Year and Christmas tree) party in Moscow for over 1,000 disadvantaged children visiting from many areas of Russia; and other vital programs.

The theme of this year’s Petroushka Ball is Russian Winter. It incorporates the whimsical Snegurochka, also known as the Snow Maiden, a character dear to many Russian folktales. Today, Snegurochka is known as Ded Moroz’ (Father Frost’s) granddaughter who is also his companion on annual New Year’s Eve trips to the homes of children in Russia.
